Treatment for neck pain in South Bristol

At the Bristol Back Pain Clinic, our chiropractors and osteopaths are experts in assessing, diagnosing and treating mechanical neck pain.

Focus on neck pain

Worry, stress, sleeping in an awkward position or long hours spent at a desk can all result in pain in the neck. This can range from a mild discomfort to a continuous dull ache which can often also be felt in the shoulder area as it extends across the shoulders and between the shoulder blades. Often movement in the neck becomes stiff, and sometimes the tension can cause patients to experience headaches too.

Almost all of us have had neck pain at one time or another, but for some it can become a daily problem that affects mood, ability to concentrate, and even sleep. In fact, back and neck pain is the second most common reason for visiting a GP.

Treating a painful or stiff neck

Chiropractors and osteopaths are specialists in diagnosing and treating all types of musculoskeletal conditions (problems with the joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves of the body) and chiropractic treatments are recommended by NICE (GP guidelines) for neck pain.

Treatment for neck pain

Harry Kauntze, chiropractor at The Bristol Back Pain Clinic explains how treatment can help: “Identifying the cause of pain and giving our patients a clear understanding of the problem and how we can treat it are the first steps to recovery. Once we know what the problem is, we can use a range of effective treatments for lasting improvement. These include acupuncture, joint mobilisations or adjustments, stretching and massage techniques, nutritional advice, relaxation techniques, home stretches and exercises.”

Harry adds: “People often tell us they feel a bit jammed up, misaligned, or that it feels like a nerve is getting pinched.  If this sounds familiar, we can help and treatments often have a dramatic effect in reducing the frequency of symptoms, if not full resolution.”
