You do not need a GP referral to visit – simply call us on 0117 9723518 to make an appointment.

Please see below for an overview of what to expect on a visit to the clinic.

Initial consultation

On your first visit to the clinic your chiropractor or osteopath will give you the opportunity to explain your symptoms and how they are affecting you. They will discuss these with you and investigate the cause with neurological and orthopaedic tests. Xrays and MRI scans may be ordered if needed.

You will then be given a diagnosis, which will be carefully explained to you and your treatment options will be discussed. A suggested management plan will be drawn up tailored to your comfort and needs, and mindful of any concerns you may have.

Initial treatment

The initial focus of chiropractic or osteopathic treatment is pain relief, after which the focus will be on restoring normal function and alignment to your body by correcting the underlying problem. Our safe and gentle treatment techniques range from classic mobilisations and manipulations of stiff joints, muscles and tendons, to stretching and rehab exercises, cranial therapy and acupuncture for tension and pain. All treatment programmes are tailored to individual needs and we are always happy to discuss any concerns you may have in advance. Following treatment, you will be given advice and rehabilitation to help prevent the problem reoccurring.

Follow up treatments

Your practitioner will continue to re-assess and treat the complaint until it is fully resolved. Once resolved, where appropriate, we would then recommend patients continue to see us at regular intervals for maintenance treatments to help keep their bodies functioning at their best. However, this would always be at the patient’s discretion.

Massage therapy appointments

Massage clients at the Bristol Back Pain Clinic can choose from a 30 or 60 minute sports or relaxation massage therapy session, with soft tissue therapy and deep tissue techniques available – see below for more details.

Sports massage - deep tissue techniques

Deep tissue massage techniques are ideal for sports performers. Whether you’re training for an event, play competitive sport regularly, or just want to help maintain your physical best for the recreational sports you enjoy, deep tissue techniques:

  • Help to improve circulation and lymphatic flow
  • Assist in the removal of metabolic waste
  • Sedate or stimulate nerve endings
  • Can increase or decrease muscle tone
  • Can increase or decrease muscle length
  • Assist in mental preparation for sporting participation
Therapeutic massage - soft tissue therapy

Soft tissue therapy provides the same benefits outlined above, which can also help relieve the day-to-day problems many people experience during work, rest or play, such as repetitive strain injury, sprains, anxiety, stress, tension and fatigue. Soft tissue therapy:
  • Provides relaxation, recuperation and rejuvenation
  • Relaxes, releases and relieves physical and emotional anxiety
  • Eases and soothes aching muscles
  • Rebalances the body’s natural rhythms
  • Promotes a sense of wellbeing

Soft tissue therapy is ideal during pregnancy and is also great for new mums, as in addition to all of the above, it can also help with post-partum healing.
